Subiaco heritage property owners offered grants of up to $5000 for conservation work
The City of Subiaco has opened its 2026/27 Heritage Grants Fund, offering eligible property owners up to $5000 for conservation and urgent repair work.

Owners of heritage-listed properties in Subiaco can apply for grants of up to $5000 to help fund conservation and restoration work.
The City of Subiaco’s Heritage Grants Fund supports individual owners and non-profit groups responsible for private properties included on the city’s local planning scheme heritage list or recognised as contributory places within a heritage area.
The funding can be used for conservation work that is visible from public areas and helps enhance or reveal a property’s heritage significance. It is also available for urgent repairs needed to stabilise a building.
Eligible projects may include façade and veranda restoration, repairs to original architectural details and chimney repairs.
The City generally provides funding for 50 per cent of the total restoration cost, up to a maximum of $5000. The grants are intended to help property owners undertake specialised work using appropriate materials while protecting Subiaco’s historic buildings and streetscapes.
City of Subiaco Mayor David McMullen said the program gave property owners practical support to protect the area’s local heritage.
“Heritage properties often require specialised work and materials,” Mayor McMullen said.
“These grants are a practical way for the city to help preserve and celebrate Subiaco’s local heritage, so that our heritage places can continue to tell the story of our city and the people who have shaped it.”
The first round of the Heritage Grants Fund for the 2026/27 financial year opened on August 21, 2026. Applications close at 5pm on October 2, 2026.
The City said owners of properties on its heritage list, as well as owners of contributory places within a heritage area, may be eligible to apply.
Subiaco property owners can also access complimentary professional architectural advice from a local heritage architect engaged by the City. The service is available to owners of heritage-protected properties, including places listed on the City of Subiaco heritage list or located within a heritage area.

The City’s heritage support also includes planning incentives. Under local planning provisions, Council may grant variations to site or development requirements where a proposal facilitates the conservation of a place listed on the State or City heritage list, or enhances and preserves heritage values within a heritage area.
Some heritage properties may also qualify for a partial waiver of planning fees under the City’s planning policy.
